Parent-Teacher Conference Week

Due to the short week there will be no spelling test. I have encouraged the students to use the extra time to study the states and their location for the East Region. I plan on giving them a test over just the states, which means being able to find the correct placement, next Friday. (Nov. 5)

Thanks to everyone for making the Chiefs Party a huge success! The kids enjoyed it and I thought it looked amazing.

Quick Note about Parent-Teacher Conferences:
  • Please bring up any questions you may have
  • If you can't end up making your timeslot please call, I can reschedule you!
  • I am looking forward to talking with all of you

Progress Reports

Sorry for the late posting this week, it completely slipped my mind. I wanted to let you know that progress reports are suppose to come home this Friday, however I will be sending them out next week. The reasoning for this is when I was going to Manhattan last weekend I was grading numerous assignments (S.S. test, Math, etc.) and I forgot them all at my in-laws. Aggghhhh! I really want these to be included so I have decided to hold off on the progress reports. This also means that the Pride Folders will have a limited number of papers this week. Sorry for the troubles!

  • Latitude and Longitude
Here is the rest of our checklist:

  1. Field Trip Wednesday (8:40-2:00pm)

Class Full of Journalists.....

Many students have been working on class newspapers during their free time. I love the passion they displayed putting these together so I want to share them with everyone. As of now I am posting a link to these newspapers on my Web Backpack under the documents tab. My goal was to put a link to them on my blog but I am having some difficulties. Enjoy, I sure did!

Spelling Lists

Spelling lists will be located on my Web Backpack under the Documents tab. I will try and always have them posted after each Monday pretest.

Week 3 Events

There are some items we need to take care of this week before enjoying a 3 day weekend! This week in class we are going to continue on with our Risks & Consequences unit in reading, finish up Topic 1 in math, explore geography in social studies, and work hard on skills in language arts. We also will be taking the math MAP test on Wednesday and our weekly spelling test Friday.

I also want to make sure everyone is aware that Back-2-School night is this Thursday. I will be going over class expectations, procedures, curriculum, and more. This is a great time to ask questions and get to know each other. Hope to see you there!

One Week Down...

We had a very successful first week of school in the 4th Grade. The class made boxes that represented themselves and did a phenomenal job presenting them. We have been working very hard on classroom procedures, routines, and other items to ensure a smooth flowing year.

New things this week:
  1. Spelling Test Friday
  2. Reading MAP test Wednesday
  3. Planners every night
  4. Pride Folder Fridays (Will explain to the class Wednesday)
Have a good week!

Box It Activity and More...

Yesterday the class got off to a great start by settling into their new room. Everyone was so respectful! You probably noticed that I sent home a silver SMSD folder that had papers to be signed and returned. I would appreciate it if I could have everything returned by Friday, August 20 at the latest.

I also assigned the first project of the new year, an activity called Box It. In this activity the students are to decorate a cereal box on the outside that represents them. The inside is to be filled with a minimum of 5 items (be creative) from a list provided for them. Look for a yellow sheet that was sent home for more information. And as always don't be afraid to contact me and ask!

What to expect this year...

One thing that you will learn about me very quickly is I love to bring a high energy approach into the classroom. I know first hand that the best way to learn is to have fun doing it! By working together, staying on task, and showing responsibility we will accomplish a great amount this year. Fourth Grade has great science experiments, an interesting unit of studying Kansas, long division in math, and much more. I have no doubt in my mind that we will enjoy being in the classroom this year.

Welcome Back to School!!

I hope everyone had a great summer! I am very excited to get this 4th Grade year underway. This blog will be used throughout the year to help communicate with parents, post assignments, and relate upcoming events. I also plan to link math websites to help work on computation, or interesting videos relative to our current subject matter. Get ready for an awesome year and see you soon!
